Last week Nigeria president Goodluck Jonathan signed
into law the new legislation that bans homosexuality in Nigeria and it was very
disappointing. Ref: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/14/world/africa/nigerian-president-signs-ban-on-same-sex-relationships.html?_r=0.
It is extremely ironic to me that in a country that
promotes polygamy, homosexuality is outlawed. Why is it morally acceptable for
men to be married to multiple women yet it is not legal for people to be gay?!
Why is the government regulating who individuals choose to have relationships
with?
Another disturbing fact is that grown men are
married to or are romantically involved with underage females. Ref: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/jul/25/nigeria-senator-accused-child-bride. This is
pedophilia. It is also interesting to me that the Nigerian president has
children out of wed lock yet he supports the illegality of homosexuality. How
do we set moral standards? What is okay and not okay behavior?
