I was fortunate to be born into the <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholicism" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Catholicism">Catholic faith</a>. I was dedicated and baptized at Church of Assumption Falomo <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ikoyi" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Ikoyi">Ikoyi</a> in <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagos" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Lagos">Lagos</a>. As a sojourner in a foreign land I have continued to seek and to follow God. I have learned the act of giving and offering service to those that are less fortunate. We control our reactions to our wins and our losses. <b>Those that conduct themselves in a manner such as this, is indicative of character traits</b>. While it is natural to be disappointed, this behavior is over the line. It is important to keep in perspective that one opportunity that doesn't work does not mean there isn't something better on the horizon. This type of behavior is very alienating and limits opportunities for future growth. our media tries people in the public far before cases ever reach the justice
system. While the information released may lead us to believe that Officer Darren Wilson did not make the best choice, we need to really peel back the facts in the case
and review what the grand jury heard. While this is a horrible tragedy, it is
unfortunate that it has become an issue of race, vandalism, looting and arson. Let’s review the facts before
we automatically assume racist intent.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">So
there are quite a wide array of topics to analyze with respect to this article
and the follow up declaration of support. At the risk of stating the obvious, I
am deeply concerned that <span style="background: white; color: #141823;">Pastor
Ayodele Joseph Oritsejafor</span></span> would purchase a plane. While I call bs on his
entire justification of the need to have <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plane_%28geometry%29" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Plane (geometry)">the plane</a>, to me the issue is really
less about the plane and more about <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_%26_Control" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Power & Control">Power and Control</a>, Entitlement and Misuse
of Funds. </b><b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">To
me the purchase of the plane is about showing off. <span style="background: white; color: #141823;">Pastor
Ayodele Joseph Oritsejafor</span></span> wants to live the high life. He wants
to be treated like royalty. He wants others to be in awe of him due to personal
possessions and self-imposed glory. People should be in awe of him because of
his incredible dedication and service to <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christ" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Christ">Christ</a>. </b></div>

<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">With that being said I would like to switch the focus to Pastor E.A
<a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enoch_Adeboye" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Enoch Adeboye">Adeboye</a> words of support: “Pastor Ayodele Joseph Oritsejafor is <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.amazon.com/Man-God-Jack-Graham/dp/1581348746%3FSubscriptionId%3D0G81C5DAZ03ZR9WH9X82%26tag%3Dthenigelibe-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D1581348746" rel="amazon" target="_blank" title="A Man of God">a man of GOD</a> I

<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">I feel that Pastor E.A Adeboye is aligning himself solely because he as
well is in the pastoral business for Stature and Power. He is a greedy
individual that wants to be recognized as a man of God while being treated like
Royalty (Daddy G.O). This type of behavior is not Christ like and in fact is
hypocritical. I am not saying that <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pastor" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Pastor">pastors</a> need to live a life of poverty,
however, I believe it to be irresponsible to use <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parish" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Parish">parishioner</a> paid donations to
fund lavish and luxury items for the pastor. This whole debate of justifying the
expenditures under the guise of what is best for Christ is unacceptable. It
disturbs me that parishioners buy into this <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hook_%28music%29" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Hook (music)">hook line</a> and sinker. Why do you
believe everything your pastor says? While yes it is important to live a Christ
like life, please remember to analyze your pastor in a critical light. Make
sure that you are not being brainwashed or receiving a skewed story of
justification.<o:p></o:p></span></h5>

<span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">Another grave issue that I have is that Pastor E.A Adeboye is coming
out now with his words of support for Pastor</span><span style="font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; font-weight: normal; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;"> </span><span style="font-size: 12.0pt;">Ayodele Joseph
Oritsejafor. This is plain and simply ignorant on his part. Why not let the
findings of the investigation emerge prior to issuing your declaration of
support? To me this shows that he supports Pastor Ayodele Joseph Oritsejafor
only because he is a pastor. There is no basis for Pastor E.A Adeboye support
as the findings of the investigation have not yet been made public. </span><span style="color: #141823; font-size: 12.0pt; font-weight: normal;"><o:p></o:p></span></h5>

<b>I continue to have deep concerns over the manner in which
the <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics_of_Nigeria" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Politics of Nigeria">Nigerian government</a> is handling the kidnapping of 234 Chibok Government <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secondary_school" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Secondary school">Secondary School</a> girls (note: there
are conflicting reports on the number of girls abducted). The <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rescue" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Rescue">rescue</a> efforts
have yet to start; the girls have been in captivity for 2 weeks. The latest
step the government has taken is to form a committee (http://leadership.ng/news/369278/jonathan-sets-committee-abducted-schoolgirls)
to determine how to rescue the girls. This is absolutely ridiculous. Why are
they forming a committee? The government should be working with multiple law
enforcement entities to coordinate a rescue effort. The rescue effort should be
active and tactile. If the government doesn’t feel they have the proper
personnel to complete the rescue, they need to reach out to other entities for
assistance.</b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<b>The government seems to be missing a huge opportunity to
interview the girls that have escaped. By interviewing the girls they will be
able to determine the location in which they are being held, the conditions
they are being held under, the number of and types of weapons, the number of
hostiles, etc. This information can serve as a critical base of information for
the rescue efforts. Another source of information that needs to be disseminated
is the identity of the girls that are being held in captivity. Law enforcement
needs to coordinate with the school and the parents to deduce the identities of
the girls.<o:p></o:p></b></div>

Would Nigerians be employed in this <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_venture" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Joint venture">joint partnership</a> venture? We always enter into joint partnerships that are lopsided in their composition, with Nigerians ending up marginalized. No matter the level of your investment in a business venture somewhere in <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Africa" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Africa">Africa</a>, you can never fill a position with Nigerians when there are indigenes of that country that can fill the position, never. What do we have here? The Chinese, <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koreans" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Koreans">Koreans</a>, Indians, Lebanese etc, in the name of investing in our economy, flood our country with their nationals to fill positions that can be effectively filled by qualified Nigerians. We have immigration laws that should control this damaging influx of foreigners but the NIS seem not to be aware of this. We have organizations bring in people who do not speak English to supervise <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_language" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="English language">English speaking</a> Nigerians in jobs where Nigerians have been adequately trained, and in English too. The <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Law">law</a> says any foreign professional must be understudied by at least two Nigerians within two years with the aim of taking over from these foreigners. Is this law working and what is the NIS doing to monitor compliance? There are organizations violating this law with impunity. The NIS just issues <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Work_permit" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Work permit">work permits</a> without proper verification of claims of organization making application for expatriates. Expatriate quota is flagrantly abused by these organizations without the NIS living up to its responsibilities. In most cases temporary work permit has become permanent with an expatriate staying for as long as four, six or more years, without a single Nigerian trained. We all travel out and we see how immigration laws work. Nigeria, let us wake up. In the local lingo, "One day be one day, yawa go gas". We are selling our country to foreigners. "Quick fingers" in government are the reason for this sorry situation we find ourselves. NIS, please wake up.</span><br />

generation of nation builders; dreams were dreamed by young men and women,
achievable dreams; hopes became brightened by starring stars of the night. As
it was true then in the hearts of many young men and women not to ask much of
their country but to give their best to their country with the hope that their
commitment would challenge their country to fulfill her social
responsibilities, so is true now that <a class="zem_slink" href="http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=9.06666666667,7.48333333333&spn=10.0,10.0&q=9.06666666667,7.48333333333%20(Nigeria)&t=h" rel="geolocation" target="_blank" title="Nigeria">Nigeria</a> has failed her young men and
women to sustain hopes and dreams they once had. It was true then that the
nation indeed provided for her young; prospective graduates got employed while
in final year of higher education, before ever called to national youth
service. The wealth of the nation ushered in new brand of Westernization;
Western diplomats flocked and clustered the nation's shore in a renewed spirit
of neocolonial fraternity; multinational industries and oil companies sprouted
everywhere like germinating seedlings in a season of plantation to scramble for
bounties of a new prosperous nation. The West sleeved in disguise of
neocolonialistic agenda, began the scavenge of a nation. Nigeria gave the world
so much hope, lavished so much wealth, bragged so much about her wealth, and
hosted the world in a festival of African arts and culture (FESTAC) in 1977.
Regrettably, the nation did not outlived her glorious moment; in default, the
hopes and aspiration gradually began to melted away. Today, Nigeria has become
a scorn among comity of nations; she has left tainted frustration in her
citizens, and forced her young to flee her suckling palms to foreign lands in
search of new dreams, to rediscover lost dreams, and to rekindle faded hopes.
Infrastructures have become alarmingly dilapidated, and in most places, none
existent; electricity, the center point of this essay, has become so epileptic
to become a badge of dishonor of a wealthy nation; citizens are left in
blackouts for weeks and/or months depending on area one lives - a ritualistic
way of daily life in a country that still, deceptively, self-acclaims herself
as a "giant of Africa". A nation without electricity is like a blind
man walking unguided in an unguarded street - a trademark of a failing nation.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

remained a weeping nation year after year, regime after regime? I remember in

assumed the messianic personality of a 'Mandela', from prison to presidency;
<a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigerians" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Nigerians">Nigerians</a> thought that the prison incarceration had revisioned in him the

presumed', a man hoped would bring renaissance of renewal; he was a symbol of
institutionalize corruption like those before him, those that came after him,
and those that will come. The promise became a lying tongue of a man drunk in
grandiose of political power. The blackout darkness of a nation degenerated. By
2010 Nigeria had an operational electricity generation capacity of 4 Gw, an
unimaginably low number for a country size in scope and population of about 165
million people, comparable to 160 Gw generated in an industrialize nation. It's
true Nigeria does not have the industrial capacity to utilize such comparative
huge electricity generation capacity as in industrialize West but one-fourth of
the capacity would put Nigeria on footpath of a developing nation and rekindle
life anew for her citizens. In light of the country's predicament, <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodluck_Jonathan" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Goodluck Jonathan">Goodluck
Jonathan</a> says he wants to build made in Nigeria cars. If to ask: is the auto
factory going to operate with generator sets, generators fueled by crude oil?
How could a nation that could not successfully assembly Peugeot cars or Mercedes
trucks least build one? Or is the Nigeria 'dream' cars going to be built by
Nissan and Stallion car makers as president Goodluck met at the 2014 <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.weforum.org/" rel="homepage" target="_blank" title="World Economic Forum">World
Economic Forum</a> with their chief executive officers. Another man with a lying
tongue, lust in illusion and deception of leadership. Yet, given the country’s
vast crude oil and natural resources, a larger proportion of the population is
stuck in a trap of poverty, a recycling dance of death that subjects 60.9%
Nigerians to absolute poverty. According to 2010 National Bureau of Statistics,
this figure represents 112.47 million Nigerians. The bureau predicts likely
continuation of the rising trend.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The failure to generate uninterrupted electricity
for Nigerians stems from the fact that Nigeria has lost the threshold of
decorum of a nation whose eyes should be glued to the future. Electricity
blackout has become daily occurrence in homes, in businesses, in every part of
the country - and this, is increasingly worrisome. As a way out of the
predicament, businesses and households purchase <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electricity_generation" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Electricity generation">electricity generating</a> sets to
light their homes and offices, power machinery and equipment. These generating
sets do not only increase cost liability, they also emit carbon monoxide into
the atmosphere - health consequence resulting from this is polluted and
poisoned air. Everybody suffers the consequence, whether it is the politician
in glass-sealed mansion in Abuja, or the downtrodden streaming for space in
slums of Ajegunle. Again, fuel and gas are needed to power these generating
sets, thus profit margins are reduced, cost increased, and prices hiked. In
spite of 10% increase in 2013 budget allocation to electricity generation,
streets, homes and businesses are still littered in blackout - an affront to
human dignity. Nigerians would have lived healthier has there been
uninterrupted electricity to power fans and/or air conditioners in homes and
offices that would provide habitable room temperatures, thus deny mosquitoes the
privilege of transmitting malaria parasites, which simultaneously comes with
illnesses that could disable functionality of human body. Electricity blackout
could not permit hospitals to perform medical procedures on patients; women
could not give successful birth delivery, hence increasing risk of accidental
death and complications. The risk of human error of professional negligence by
doctors and nurses no doubt worsens the already health havoc; human life in the
hands of doctors becomes like a chicken ready to be slashed for a pot of stew
sauce without recourse to responsibility. Again, children cannot appropriately
learn in schools because blackout is everywhere; science and computer
laboratories have become storage spaces when there is no electricity to
experimentally utilization the equipment. The result is turnout of half-baked
graduates who litter the streets in search of jobs, in most cases unqualified.
The consequence is a nation of band of unemployed young men and women with
deficient tools to compete and excel in modern techno-society - these are young
men and women who constitute the quantum of Nigeria poor. Some of the
unemployed have broken bounds with societal norms and decency to engage in
armed robbery, human trafficking, prostitution, kidnapping, terrorism, and most
have been frustrated to flee. Besides, the level of poverty has led to various
regional agitations across the country. For example, In the Niger Delta, the
youths years ago vowed to riffle the economy of the nation, they vandalized oil
pipelines, kidnapped oil workers, and almost crippled the national economy. The
nightmare they unleashed resulted to horrifying mayhem in the region. In the
midst of delusion and passion for regional autonomy, the movement for
emancipation of the State of Biafra resurrected in the East, across the beds of
River Niger. In the North, Boko Haram began a campaign of anarchy and
annihilation that is terrorizing the North, from the banks of River Benue
toward the deserts of the Fulani caliphate. These regional resentments reflect
continued scourge of poverty, undevelopment, and frustration across the regions
of the nation.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Privatization of power sector or any other
government sector is not panacea for development in Nigeria because the endemic
corruption that has rippled democracy and fabric of the society makes nothing
transparent, and nothing gets done with due administrative process. Besides,
there is a level in development theory that a country can attain to provide and
sustain its citizens before it embarks on privatization of its economy; certain
structures must be in place, and these are not yet in place. Nigeria has a
political system where the rich circumvent the law of the land in ridicule and
intimation of the poor; a nation where those that are caught stolen are
rewarded, released from prison, given amnesty, and/or appointed to serve same
government he or she stole from without minimum regard to national conscience
and consciousness. Is this a country to be celebrated and hoped to have a
future? To turn things around, first, full scale electricity generation and
supply must be vigorously pursued to raise industrial production and
productivity, bring peace of mind and certainty to homes - these, no doubt will
close the recycling trap of poverty and rekindle life anew in the citizenry.
For this to come true requires effective governance, effective laws that are
time-tested, and effective enforcement. Until corruption is controlled the
problem of electricity, like many numerous problems confronting the nation,
remains dreamful. As I look beyond the horizon, Nigerians are not yet ready to
give away privileges of corruption and indiscipline, to sacrifice the present
for the future - for this, Nigeria remains standstill. It's not a matter of
debate but a matter of what has been seen, what is seen, and what is hope to be
seen; it's the reality, not illusion of fantasy of imaginary 'Alice
Wonderland'. Like in economics, politics projects same for the future. A
handful of politicians cannot decide the faith of a nation; cannot decide a
national conference of a people for a free people, choose who attends, or set
its agenda. Nigeria is still run like an enterprise owned by a clique of
investors whose sole interest is profit. Unfortunately, this is not the new Nigeria
many illusively nurse the hope would still come. Though, things can still
turnaround for better 'ONLY IF' Nigerians must massively determine the kind of
nation, the kind of government system they want, and those who participant.
Like in every meaningful nation where citizens rise up, and are still rising
up, stand up for justice and corrupt governance, Nigerians must wake up from
slumber; Nigerians must wear off the 'complacency of 'who cares attitude' and
take fate in their hands so that their children's children yet unborn will
still have a nation called Nigeria. It bemoans that the generation that my
father was born into waited patiently, like vultures, to see a better Nigeria,
my father died with hopes unfulfilled, dreams drowned. My generation is about
to extinct, yet Nigeria still crawls like a colorless chameleon - my generation
will soon die leaving our children's children go same way as our fathers. For
those that still sleep in fantasy, know ye thee that neither miracle nor prayer
brings about societal change. Rather, public opinion and people's deeds change
a society. Responsible nations do not bruise their knees in endless prayer,
wishfully waiting for a miracle that would never come; nations take their faith
in their hands ready to rediscover their fate anew.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

throughout both of his campaigns. Obama has brought about a positive momentum
of change and progressiveness. One of the pieces that I would like to draw
attention to is <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_reform" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Immigration reform">Immigration reform</a>. As we all know Obama campaigned heavily on

the importance of taking action against those that are harmful to <a class="zem_slink" href="http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667&spn=10.0,10.0&q=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667%20(United%20States)&t=h" rel="geolocation" target="_blank" title="United States">the US</a>. While
Obama has taken the firm and necessary action to ensure that our soil is safe
from immigrants that are harmful to the safety of America, he has come up short

that the Immigration system continues to be broken. When will we be taking a
more aggressive approach to reform Immigration. While there is talk or rumoring
of amnesty, this alone does not solve the Immigration nightmare we are all in.
The <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_salary_cap" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="NBA salary cap">amnesty provision</a> would help those that are here illegally. <b>What about
those that have chosen to follow the Immigration process?</b> Those individuals

to hold those that work in the area of Immigration Enforcement accountable for
quality <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Job_performance" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Job performance">job performance</a>. He needs to demand a high level of professionalism. He

<span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">Not too long ago, the Association of Local <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics_of_Nigeria" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Politics of Nigeria">Government of Nigeria</a> (ALGON) wrote a petition to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) accusing Governor Rochas Okorocha of <a class="zem_slink" href="http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=5.48333333333,7.03333333333&spn=1.0,1.0&q=5.48333333333,7.03333333333 (Imo%20State)&t=h" rel="geolocation" target="_blank" title="Imo State">Imo State</a> and his team of taking an unauthorized loan that runs into many billions of naira from <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.zenithbank.com/" rel="homepage" target="_blank" title="Zenith Bank">Zenith Bank</a> using the monthly allocations for the 27 local govern<span class="text_exposed_hide">...</span><span class="text_exposed_show">ment councils in the state as collateral for the loan.</span></span><br />
<span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}"><span class="text_exposed_show"><br /> Consequently, the Imo State Commissioner for Finance, Deacon Chike Okafor and the <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accountant_General" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Accountant General">Accountant General</a> of the state, Mr. George Eche were arrested and detained by the EFCC in relation of the accusation. These government officials were later granted administrative bail.<br /> As an offshoot to the alleged controversial loan, there was another petition to the Attorney-General of the Federation against the Imo House of Assembly accusing the state legislature of authorizing Governor Okorocha to borrow 45 billion naira from Zenith Bank.<br />
<br /> On the 10th of January, 2013, the Imo State Government through an official press statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information Mr. Chinedu Offor, debunked the above allegation. For a better appreciation here is an excerpt of the press statement:<br />
<br /> ‘The attention of the government of Imo State has been drawn to the report of the detention of the Commissioner for Finance, Deacon Chike Okafor and the Accountant General of the state, Mr. George Eche by the <a class="zem_slink" href="http://www.efccnigeria.org/" rel="homepage" target="_blank" title="Economic and Financial Crimes Commission">Economic and Financial Crimes Commission</a> (EFCC). The report also alleged that both government officials were arrested for obtaining a 40 Billion Naira loan from Zenith Bank on behalf of the state government. The allegation in its entirety is false, unfounded and another campaign of calumny designed to divert attention from the probe of the former PDP administration in the state. We make bold to state categorically that the government of Imo state under His Excellency, <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rochas_Okorocha" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Rochas Okorocha">Owelle Rochas Okorocha</a> never obtained 40Billion Naira loan nor misappropriated the state funds as alleged. Instead, the present government has paid up all loans collected by the past administration including the 6.4 Billion Naira loan by the former Gov. Ohakim just two months to 2011 election for which EFCC is yet to investigate…’<br />
<br /> In a related development, The Clerk of the Imo State House of Assembly, Chief Chris Duru was also quizzed by the operatives of EFCC over a purported resolution by the state legislature granting approval to the Imo State Executive to obtain N45 billion loan facility.<br />
<br /> Consequently, the Imo State House of Assembly denied the allegation that it gave approval to the Imo State Government to obtain loan of N45 billion from the Zenith Bank Plc. The Chairman, <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_congressional_committee" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="United States congressional committee">House Committee</a> on Information, Chief Acho Ihim, during a press briefing dismissed the allegation, stressing that the state legislature did not authorise the executive to obtain N45 billion.<br /> ‘The truth of the matter is that at no point did the House authorize the executive to obtain N45 billion loan and it had since confirmed that the executive did not obtain any such loan from Zenith Bank or indeed any other bank’.<br />
<br /> Chief Ihim, who is representing <a class="zem_slink" href="http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=5.483,7.55&spn=1.0,1.0&q=5.483,7.55 (Okigwe)&t=h" rel="geolocation" target="_blank" title="Okigwe">Okigwe</a> State constituency in the Assembly stated that the clerk of the House informed the EFCC operatives that there was no resolution by the state legislators authorising the state government to obtain a loan of N45 billion from Zenith Bank.<br /> ‘The legislature is the only arm of government empowered by the constitution to grant approval for the executive to secure loans and other facilities. And the Imo State House of Assembly stands willing to approve any it considers necessary for the good governance of Imo State’, Ihim summed up.<br /> <br /> When I first heard the stories about the controversial loan, I did not believe the petitioners. I took everything as part of the usual plots by political opponents to discredit the government in power.<br /> However, during the 29th May 2013 Democracy Day Celebration in <a class="zem_slink" href="http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=5.485,7.035&spn=0.1,0.1&q=5.485,7.035 (Owerri)&t=h" rel="geolocation" target="_blank" title="Owerri">Owerri</a>, the Imo State Government lined up a lot of activities to mark the 14-year of unbroken civilian rule in Nigeria. The highlight of the celebration in Owerri was very grand. Incidentally, the event gave the Governor Okorocha the opportunity to give an account of his stewardship to Imo people for the two years he had piloted the affairs of Imo State.<br />
<br /> Governor Okorocha’s speech at the occasion had a lot of hope-rising policy statements.<br /> However, I was not comfortable when the governor in his speech, said the following:<br />‘We never took any N100B loan; it’s not true rather what we did was we took N50bn from Zenith Bank…’.<br />
<br /> When I heard this, I knew that the governor had landed himself and his government into a deep shit. This is because of the implication of the statement.<br /> The controversial Zenith Bank allegation was an allegation the Okorocha-Led Administration had earlier denied in its entirety. However, with this Governor’s latest confession, it goes to establish the truth of the Zenith <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loan" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Loan">bank loan</a> scam.<br />
<br /> I have always wanted Governor Okorocha to succeed in office. That was why I stopped criticizing him strongly and adopted the advisory approach in talking about the challenges of his government. That was also why I accepted working in his government the 10 months I did.<br /> On a more serious note, just like the Governor driving himself to official functions, I have also always detested Governor Okorocha not reading prepared speeches when making policy statements. Extempore speaking is not a show that one is intelligent. It is not the best global practice for statesmen. Even government officials of the owners of English language most a times read prepared speeches. Government is a serious business and not razzmatazz. Therefore, Governor’s speech is expected to be prepared by professional speech writers who are abreast with the policy/thrusts of the administration. The implication of certain statements should be weighed before they are churned out to the public. This is because words that come from the mouth of a statesman like a Governor is policy statement and are bonds. Such are meant to be believed. It also form part of what the statesmen is accessed with. Therefore, consistency in the position of governments on issues of public interest is very sacrosanct. It shows that the government is organised, serious and should always be taken into great confidence.<br />
<br /> Interestingly, former Governor <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Mbakwe" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Sam Mbakwe">Sam Mbakwe</a> whom Governor Okorocha claims to be competing with achieved all he could in Imo State mainly from loans he obtained on behalf of Imo people and he made it clear to the understanding of everybody. Therefore, there is nothing wrong in government taking loan from banks to cater for the people. But in the case at hand here, I do not see the reason why Governor Okorocha and his team should be involved in a game of hide-and-seek over a loan he obtained on behalf of Imo people. What is the government trying to hide from the public because clear conscience fears no accusation? There is nothing wrong in accepting ab-initio that the state government obtained a loan. This is an insult to the sensibility of the people and their mandate. It is an act that is short of acceptable civilized practice especially for somebody like Okorocha who wants to rule the country.<br />
<br /> On the other hand, there was no need for Governor Okorocha to talk about the Zenith bank in his speech at the 2013 Democracy Day event because he was no longer under pressure to do so. This is because it is an issue the state government had already taken an earlier firm stand. Moreover, the matter had long shifted to EFCC and the anti-graft body is still investigating it.<br />
<br /> Therefore, the above positions and inconsistent statements from different highly placed government officials in Imo State on the Zenith bank loan scandal have presented Okorocha and his team as liars, fraudsters, immature, a people enmeshed in corruption, lacking in transparency and accountability. This has really opened the administration to great ridicule and is trying to prove the opposition right. The implication is that the people may now be tempted to see all the opposition say as right. This is not good for an administration people sacrificed a lot to vote in. It baffles me why both the present Governor and government should appear irresponsible to the people.<br />
<br /> Incidentally, Imo people are so educated, sophisticated and enlightened that they should not be taken for granted. They record every statement the Government says and the things it does.<br /> Therefore, like the JPROS scandal, Imo people need further explanations for the inconsistent positions over the Zenith Bank scandal. They also deserve unreserved apologies for this act of disappointment and the time to do it is now before it is too late.<br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">The first problem is that they are looking to
provide financial support (Ref: <a href="http://www.channelstv.com/home/2013/04/25/jonathan-shares-n5-7-billion-to-victims-of-2011-post-election-violence/"><span style="color: blue;">http://www.channelstv.com/home/2013/04/25/jonathan-shares-n5-7-billion-to-victims-of-2011-post-election-violence/</span></a>
) for <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Individual" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Individual">individuals</a> who experienced tragedy during the <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>post-election violence of 2011, over two years
ago. While I am sure these individuals can use the money now, <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">why has it taken this long for the
government to extend the aid?</b><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"> <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Another significant flaw I see is the tracking of
this aid. <strong>In Nigeria there is no public
database that consistently accounts for individuals</strong> ( Ref: <a href="http://chiedufelix.blogspot.com/2011/06/national-crisis-nigeria-country-without.html">http://chiedufelix.blogspot.com/2011/06/national-crisis-nigeria-country-without.html</a> ). I am referencing a
system of <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Security_number" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Social Security number">social security numbers</a> like are used in <a class="zem_slink" href="http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667&spn=10.0,10.0&q=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667 (United%20States)&t=h" rel="geolocation" target="_blank" title="United States">the US</a> and other civilized countries.
While I know there are flaws with respect to the social security number system,
in the US, it is a fairly effective way of tracking the identities of individuals.
It seems as though anyone can come forward and claim to be part of these
tragedies in Nigeria. While this is reducing the amount of aid available to
those who truly deserve it, it also invites dishonest people to cash in on the
tragedies of others.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"> <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">In the developed countries and the US there are
federal protections that are put into place immediately for individuals that
are victims of natural disasters, terrorist attacks, etc. These individuals
receive monetary relief, housing assistance, mortgage protections, etc. The aid
is able to be dispersed in a timely, organized manner that ensures that it
“lands in the correct hands.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"> <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Another disturbing part of this story is that
Nigeria has to borrow substantial money with respect to infrastructure
improvements. Why is the government not planning ahead? There should be money
allotted for each area of the budget. The government shouldn’t have to borrow
for certain items while paying for others. Who decides what to pay for? Are the
funds guaranteed from one year to the next? Are there any planning and
organizational efforts surrounding <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_spending" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Government spending">government spending</a> and allocation or are
these merely “fly by the seat of the pants ideas?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"> <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">I continue to worry about many of the problems that
exist in Nigeria. The government spending seems to be up to the whim of the
current administration. Where are the checks and balances? Who is regulating
the spending? Who is monitoring the revenue? I believe that it is imperative
that the citizens of Nigeria demand fiscal accountability for their country. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">We live in a world in which terroristic attacks

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">The above examples are simply a sampling of the
approach the government takes to pursuing justice against those that commit
these horrible acts of terrorism. Unfortunately, the <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics_of_Nigeria" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Politics of Nigeria">Nigerian government</a> does
not embody the same pursuit of justice. It sickens me to know that the Nigerian
government brokers deals with <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boko_Haram" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Boko Haram">Boko Haram</a> terrorists ( Ref. link: Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan Names Boko Haram Amnesty Committee Members <a href="http://t.co/RlXD8pXir5" rel="nofollow nofollow" target="_blank">http://t.co/RlXD8pXir5</a> ). The deals that they broker are not
plea bargains, they are in fact offers of amnesty. This is absurd and frankly
inexcusable. The <a class="zem_slink" href="http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=9.06666666667,7.48333333333&spn=10.0,10.0&q=9.06666666667,7.48333333333 (Nigeria)&t=h" rel="geolocation" target="_blank" title="Nigeria">Nigeria</a> government of President <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodluck_Jonathan" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Goodluck Jonathan">Goodluck Jonathan</a> takes the stance that in order to stop the Boko <a class="zem_slink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Haram" rel="wikipedia" target="_blank" title="Al Haram">Haram, Al</a>-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb affiliates in Northern Nigeria and other
terrorism from occurring, they need to offer the terrorists amnesty. To me this
action, not only promotes new and current terroristic individuals and groups to
continue with these violent actions, it also sends a message to the families of
victims that they don’t matter…that the government doesn’t care about the lives
lost.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">The Nigerian government needs to significantly
change their practice. They must fully pursue terrorist activities. They must
hold those responsible accountable and punish them to the fullest extent of the
law.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
